A Novel Method for Calculating the Ground Loss Resistance of a Very Low Frequency T-Type Antenna Array

Abstract
This paper proposes a novel algorithm to calculate the ground-loss resistance of a very low-frequency (VLF) T-type antenna array with a ground screen. The near-ground region of the T-type antenna is divided into three zones: ground screen zone, ground screen outer-end zone, and ground screen outer lateral zone. Magnetic-field loss resistance and electric-field loss resistance generated by horizontal top wires and vertical down leads are calculated in all three zones to obtain the antenna's total ground loss resistance. Example calculations show that the results obtained by the proposed method are closer to the measured values than those calculated by the classical Wait-Pope method. The variation law of ground-loss resistance generated in different zones of the antenna site with earth conductivity is analyzed, and valuable conclusions are drawn.
